We currently have a vacancy for a Publishing Assistant in our self-publishing department, Spiderwize. Spiderwize helps authors to turn their manuscripts into professionally designed books available for sale online across the world. We pride ourselves on providing professional services for authors who decide to publish their own work independently of a traditional publishing house.

The Role:

The role is a temporary contract for a period of 9 months to cover Maternity Leave however with Spiderwize growing at a rapid rate there is the possibility to be taken on a permanent basis following on from this cover.

This role itself involves working with authors to guide them through the self-publishing process. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Answer incoming calls and emails, ensuring any customer queries are responded to quickly and resolved with a high level of customer service.
  • Liaise with authors and internal departments to ensure the author’s requirements are met. The successful candidate will work closely with our design, editorial and production staff to ensure all author requirements fulfilled successfully.
  • Liaise with external companies such as our Print-On-Demand partner to ensure we maintain good, profitable business relationships.
  • Manage author royalties – collating monthly sales reports and issuing letters and cheques.
  • Keep up to date with Self Publishing or Indie Publishing trends and liaise any points of interest back to your line manager.
  • Upload books to POD providers and register newly published books with the appropriate agencies.

Required skills:

  • A friendly, personable attitude that puts customers at ease.
  • Superb telephone manner and email etiquette.
  • Ability to work independently to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise your own workload to ensure the most essential tasks are dealt with efficiently.
  • Competency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • A passion for and knowledge of books and literature.
  • Experience of working in a publishing environment.
  • Experience of working in a customer services environment.
